Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) -- Re-Activation and "New" Activation Questions/Problems Special Note: If Request for Activation Code Form Server is down, please send all the information in an Email to frbjorklund@driversdailylog.com TOP QUESTIONS/PROBLEMS: Q14: I purchased a new, or replacement computer what do I need to do to activate this computer? Q17: I purchased DDL a few days ago and have not received my Activation Code. What is the holed up? Q21: I updated my software to the latest version, now my program will not work, and has went back to 0 days (trial version). What do I need to do?
Most common fixes are: 1. Check your computer system time and date. Make sure it is set to the current date and time. 2. Check that the InstallationID matches on the computer with the email you received. (If not then you will need to resubmit a request for Activation Code Form with the InstallationID that is on the computer. 3. Check that you are entering the ActivationCode in correctly. What for errors like putting a number o in where it should be a letter o. The email will tell you what is needed. Q1: What is the different between a "NEW" and "Reactivation"? Q6: Can you give an example of the three (3) 'NEW' activations? Q10: Can I receive an Re-ActivationCode or a "NEW" ActivationCode by phone? Q12: I have lost my email, or never saved and printed it as instructed, how do I get a reactivation? Q13: I need to reactivate my copy of DDL, can you explain the correct procedure? Q14: I purchased a new, or replacement computer what do I need to do to activate this computer? Q17: I purchased DDL a few days ago and have not received my Activation Code. What is the holed up? Q-18: I have installed the 30 days Trial software, How do I activate it? Q-23: Can I get an extension to look at the software a few more days, before I buy it? Q1: What is the different between a "NEW" and "Reactivation"? A: A "NEW" Activation is: A computer that does not have DDL installed on it. "A completely different computer", i.e. one to replace the old one. or you buy a 2nd computer. or install DDL on a 2nd computer i.e. Laptop or Desktop. Or you update the CPU, or Mother Board on this computer. The old policy was, you were required to delete DDL from the old computer, or purchase the 2nd computer license. We have done away with a 2nd computer license. We will now issue three (3) "NEW" Activations. A "Reactivation" is: A computer that has DDL already installed and activated that has been updated or Updated, example: equipment (i.e. Hard Drive, Operating System update, i.e. Updated from Windows 98 to Windows XP Home, or Vista.) All the above is not consider "NEW" and does not count against the three (3) limit. A: You should of received your ActivationCode by an email from us within 12 to 48 hours, (Normally within 12 hours). If you have not received anything please read the following: 1. Your email from us is being blocked, or filtered (this can be at your computer level, or your internet provider level). You will need to add us to your address/safe list. After adding us, you will need to complete the "Request for Activation Code Form" out again. If your still do not receive an email within 12 to 48 hours, you will need to contact your email provider to resolve the issue. For instructions on how to add our email Click HERE and to learn how to prevent mailbox filters from deleting our email to you. We know that the following email providers will block/filter DDL Software email, as junk, spam, or trash. AOL, HOTMAIL, MSN MAIL, SBC GLOBAL, YAHOO, ROAD RUNNER, GMAIL and many more. 2. You provided a bad email address and the email we sent you was returned to us. Please complete the "Request for Activation Code Form" out again. Check your email address carefully. Or submit using a different email address. A: There are several things that will cause DDL to go back to the trial period (Locked or Unlocked). Note: Carry Paper Logbooks with you at all times! In all cases (even if not covered in the list below, the steps to activate/reactivate are the same: 1. Download and install the latest version, as of today, this minute. (we might of slipped an update in the past 24 hours with the same version number.) 2. Submit a "Request for Activation Code Form" with the InstallationID that appears on the top. (You can click on this link below to complete the form now. Complete all information to speed up the request. Here are the most common reasons DDL goes back to Trial mode: 1. A change in hardware. i.e. CPU, Mother Board, Updating the BIOS, Memory and Hard Drive. 2.
Upgrading to any different version of any
operating system will cause DDL to de-activate. All that is needed to
reactivate is to download and install the latest DDL and any print modules. Then
complete a Request for Activation Form. You will need the new InstallationID
number that is displayed. ie going from XP to Vista or Vista to Windows 7. 3. Deleting, or Uninstalling DDL will in most cases cause DDL to generate a new InstallationID number. We do not recommend deleting and is not needed, when updating all you need to do is close DDL program, then re-download the current DDL file from our download section on the web site, or click on the link on the top of your DDL program, if you have version 3.4.4.11 or later installed. Run the install program, DDL will update the needed files. If you do uninstall, then use the uninstall located under START Menu-Drivers Daily Log-Uninstall 4. Copying or moving the entire Drivers Daily Log Folder onto another computer. This will cause DDL to change the InstallationID number, which will cause DDL to go back to a trial version. Copy, or move only the Drivers Folder is the correct way. 5. Changing, or installing/moving where DDL was first installed (lives) Default is C:/Program Files/Drivers Daily Log to say C:/Drivers Daily Log. You can find this by looking at the Top Title bar. 6. Installing DDL on a removable device. i.e. flash drive, external hard drive. Each time you 'plug' into a different computer DDL will generate a new InstallationID number, and will have to have a NEW ActivationCode. Noted there is a limit of three NEW activations before you will need to repurchase DDL. (Each computer is one, even if the software is on a flash drive. 7. If you have not updated the software in the past nine months, DDL will start popping up warning boxes that the software is about to expire. You will need to: a) Back up your Drivers Folder to an external device. (CDROM or DVDROM, Flash/Jump drive. b) Download and Install the latest version of DDL and any print modules you have installed. If you let the software expire, just follow a and b above. If the software stay in trial mode, you will need to complete the "Request for ActivationCode Form" located on the web site. 8. On some computers, older DDL versions would sometimes fail to 'hold' because of occasional long delays, timeouts, in DDL waiting for an expected response from Windows operating system. DDL has been modified/repaired in later versions to correct this. (Update to the latest version) 9. We
also suspect that DDL users are 'uninstalling' DDL before an updating to latest
version. Since the version number is in the InstallationID number, this will
cause a change in the InstallationID number. If not caught, then the Activation
Code we issue will fail as it was for the old InstallationID number. A new
"Request for Activation Code Form" will need to be submitted. When DDL goes back to a trial period, DDL looks back at how much time you have used of the 30 days trial period. i.e. you download and install DDL and use it for 30 days, you decide you like it and purchase it, Later you change your hard drive, DDL goes back to the trial period and you would have 30 days left. Each computer gets the 30 days trial period, (you will need to send a Request for ActivationCode Form from the web site, to start this 30 day trial) when the period is over DDL will show 0 days remaining, and will not allow any new input, until the software is reactivated. You can still print and see all log days you have entered. DDL never deletes any log data. 10. After Installation version 3.4.3.23 or later, and you purchased the software over a year, or had a version installed that was over a year old. then you will need to complete the 'Request for ActivationCode Form' located on our Web Site. You will be issued a new InstallationID that you need to put on the Request Form. Please complete a different 'Request Form' for each computer you have activated. 11. Check the system clock (time and date. If the clock is 'off' by so many days so that trial days becomes 'unreasonable' then DDL will refuse to activate. Set the System Date and Time to current time now, then re-enter the ActivationCode. 12. You must be logged in as administrator, Vista requires you check three areas (see Vista Notes). If not then DDL will not produce a InstallationID that can be activated, If you are sure the InstallationID matches what DDL is displaying (it can and will change on it's own, You can not change this number). And you are sure you have entered the ActivationCode as instructed in the email you received. (remember the letter o is not the same as a number o). Then you need to check that DDL is in Administration mode. (Windows can and does change this back to standard mode) 13. If you wait more than 3 months to update the software, it can (not always) cause DDL to loose it Activationcode and a new InstallationID will be created. You will need to complete the "Request for Activation Code Form" with the new InstallationID code on your computer now. (Not the old InstallationID number). We recommend updating at least every two months to stay current. 14. Changes in our Activation system can cause the InstallationID number to change if the software has not been updated every few months. You will need to complete the "Request for Activation Code Form" with the new InstallationID code on your computer now. (Not the old InstallationID number). We recommend updating at least every two months to avoid this. 15. Our activation process relies, in part, to information provided by the Windows Management Instrumentation (WMI) system which is a database of hardware and software information maintained by Windows. But, applications and driver software can 'muck around' in it and add 'extensions'. If the WMI data changes, then DDL InstallationID will change, and that will most likely 'kick' DDL activation, so DDL assumes install on a different computer. A reactivation code will be needed.
Note: if the WMI is changing daily or more, this indicates hardware might be
going bad, or shorting out. Backup, Backup, Backup.
16. If updating from any version before 3.4.4.18, a bug was fixed, which will cause all versions before 3.4.4.18 to de-activate. Once you have 3.4.4.18 or later, updating by it's self will not cause DDL to need to be reactivated. Update every few months to stay current and to avoid problems. Submit a Request for Activation with the new InstallationID to receive a new ActivationCode. A: Normally not, however the InstallationID may be different. If the InstallationID has changed for any reason, then you will need to update to the latest version and complete a request for ActivationCode Form on the web site. If the InstallationID is the same that is in the email ((all 20 numbers), then this is no problem, you can enter the ActivationCode issued in the email from us. Then click on the process activation button, because no change in hardware, or operation system has occurred the old activation should work. Remember any change in hardware, or operating system, or updating DDL will cause DDL to fail, and a new Activation Code will be needed. A: Our security system looks at windows date and time when first installed, if you change and move into the past or future, then DDL will deactivate the trial period, this prevents users from going back and trying to get another 30 days. Hey guys we were not born last night. If you want to go back, or into the future, do so from within DDL, there is no limit on either. Q6: Can you give an example of the three (3) 'NEW' activations. A: A user activates DDL on Laptop (1st Activation) User decides to run DDL on home computer as a backup, issued 2nd ActivationCode ("NEW" InstallationID). User buys a new laptop during the year. ("NEW" InstallationID), 3rd and last "NEW" ActivationCode issued. Now if something were to happen the user would have to Pay the full price of $50.00 for the 'Lite' version and $95.00 for the 'Full' version, again to receive a "NEW" Activation. A: NO! The InstallationID may change, we will be able to determine what has changed and if it is the same computer. There are no limits on the number of Re-ACTIVATIONCODE that will be issued in this case. You will need to download and install the latest version of DDL, before we will issue a new code. For users that currently have three or more license you will need to contact Bruce at 575-317-9292 for pricing information. A: Several things will occur: 1.. You have used one of the 3 authorized "NEW" activations, You would have 1 left. Then you will be required to purchase a "New" license at the full rate of $50.00 US for the 'Lite' License or $95.00 US for the 'Full' license. 2. That person would not be allowed any re-activations. As that person would not be listed in our database. Any problems would fall on the user giving away their codes. (this can and will be traced back to the Registered user). Users that use all three Activations will have to purchased a new license for the regular price of $50.00 US for the 'Lite' version and $95.00 US for the 'Full' version, in order to be re-activated. A: This can be caused by several things. #2 is most likely! 1. Check the number/letters entered very carefully as it is very easy to reverse or put a wrong number in. 2. Check the InstallationID number on the computer against the InstallationID number on the email you received from us. Is it the same number? a. YES, then continued to #3 below, b. No, then you will need to complete a new "Request for Activation Code Form" located on our web site. or click on the button below. c. Why is the number changed: see FAQ Question # 3 3. Did you place the hyphen's in the code? They must be entered. i.e. 64567-12983-00012-09890 would be correct, but 64567129830001209890 would fail as would 64567-129830012-09890, notice the missing hyphen between the 2nd and 3rd group of numbers. 6702O-87898-AB56T-Z98U1. Check the Activation Code. The letters can be enter either small or caps. However the number 0 is not the same as the letter O. The number 1 is not the same as the letter i. In the email we will tell which it is. ie: the 1st 0 is a number the 2nd O is a letter. The 1st 1 is a number. Read and check your work. 4. This is not the correct computer. Each computer will have different InstallationID number and can not be changed by the user. Check the InstallationID number and make sure it is a match for the one submitted. All valid InstallationID and ActivationCode will be counted against the three allowed, A error will result in using one of your three (3) "NEW" Codes allowed. You must complete a 'Request for Activation Code Form' on our web site if the number is different, we will inform you if this is counted as a 'NEW' Code or a reactivation. Visit http://www.ddlsoftware.com or, our main web site at http://www.driversdailylog.com for the form, or click on the button below. 5. Did you update the software, after you sent the InstallationID number, but before you entered an ActivationCode? If so then your InstallationID number has changed, and the ActivationCode we provided will not work. You must send the new InstallationID number to receive an ActivationCode, click on the button below Q10: Can I receive an Re-ActivationCode or a "NEW" ActivationCode by phone? A: No all request for re-activations or "NEW" activations must be done by completing the correct form located on the customer support web site at http://www.ddlsoftware.com or, our main web site at http://www.driversdailylog.com A: DDL is designed to compare the InstallationID number each time the software is ran, by copying the entire DDL folder on to a different computer, DDL detects different hardware and go back to any remaining trial days. past 30 days, then DDL will not allow any new input. The correct way to use any external device is to copy ONLY the Drivers Folder, then copy this back into Drivers Daily Log main folder on the 2nd computer. Q12: I have lost my email, or never saved and printed it as instructed, how do I get a reactivation? A: You must still complete "Request for Activation Code (Select Reactivation from the list) Form located on the customer support web site at http://www.ddlsoftware.com or, our main web site at http://www.driversdailylog.com you will need to fill out as much information as possible, we must be able to match several items, i.e. Full name of the person who registered the software. Address used to register, Phone number used to register, Email used to register. Customer ID/DDL ID number assigned in the email we mailed to you. If we can not locate you in our data base, you could have to re-purchase DDL before a ActivationCode can be issued. This is why we insist that you Print and Save a Hard Copy and keep it somewhere safe. A copy saved on the hard drive is not safe. When the hard drive goes south, how will you get the information needed? You will need this information to re-activated. Failure to have this information can delay a ActivationCode from being issued for up to 72 hours, while we research your information. The more information you can provide the faster we can get you back up and running. Your customer number is the quickest way to re-activation. Put it in the location in DDL Registration screen beside your InstallationID & ActivationCode, then print and save. We recommend your permit book. Q13: I need to reactivate my copy of DDL, can you explain the correct procedure? A: After 1 Oct 2005, we will not issued any Re-ActivationCode with out the user doing the following: 1. First you must download and install the latest version of DDL and any print modules needed. Do not uninstall your old DDL. Just run the install program. This means within the past 72 hours. (Last month dose not count as just updated). Failure to do this will result in delays as we then will have to email you to do it, then you will have to complete a new request form and submit it. 2. You must complete a "Request for Activation Code (select Re-activation from the list) Form' located on the customer support website at http://www.ddlsoftware.com or, our main web site at http://www.driversdailylog.com, or click on the button below. 3. This form must be completed in full, or a delay can result in finding your record. Without a Customer ID/DDL ID number, you could be required to purchase a new copy of DDL. Q14: I purchased a new, or replacement computer what do I need to do to activate this computer? A: Follow these steps below: 1. First you must download and install the latest version of DDL and any print modules needed on the new, or replacement computer. Do not uninstall your old DDL. Just run the install program. This means within the past 72 hours. (Last week dose not count as just updated). Failure to do this will result in delays in receiving your ActivationCode. As we then will have to email you to do it, then you will have to complete a new request form and submit it. 2. Please complete a 'Request for Activation Code Form' located on our web site http://www.driversdailylog.com, or the customer support website at http://www.ddlsoftware.com or, click on the button below Please make sure you put the InstallationID from the computer you want activated. NOT the old computer or email from us. A delay will occur, as we must have this new InstallationID to activate this computer. Hint: The InstallationID can and will change, and we must always have the one that is showing in the Registration/Purchased dialog box. 3. This form must be completed in full, or a delay can result in finding your record. Without a Customer ID/DDL ID number, or order confirmation/transaction number, you could be required to purchase a new copy of DDL. A: All DDL install programs will expire. As we update the program Daily, Weekly, and due to the increase in fines and being placed out of service for running old programs, we require that all users download and install the latest version before we will issue a new or reactivation code. Check the web site for the latest version of the software. Check back and download and install the update every couple of months. DDL will also quit working if not updated every few months. We will warn you that this is about to happen. Stop when you can and update your version. This will save you big money in fines should we have a bug that needs to be fixed. Updates are free to registered users and users during the Trial period. A: DDL is displaying: "ERROR: WMI System Failed." DDL needs the WMI
system in order to generate the InstallationID.
Q17: I purchased DDL a few days ago and have not received my Activation Code. What is the hold up? A: It could be any of the following reasons: 1. You did not follow the 4 steps listed on the Buy Online page. -- Go back and complete steps 1, 3, and 4. You completed step 2, purchasing. 2. Your email was no good, and we are unable to sent you, your Activation Code. Please read FAQ # 2 for how to correct this problem. or you have not added frbjorklund@driversdailylog.com to your email address book, and we are being blocked, or filtered. When we confirm the information we will send the ActivationCode to the email address we have on record and the new address. Only the person(s) who's name and email address we have on file can request and receive an ActivationCode. Safeguard your information as it will count against the allowed 3 new Activations if someone other than you has the correct information, and you will be required to purchase a new license.
Q-23: Can I get an extension to look at the software a few more days, before I buy it?
